Jessica Dance is a designer creating handcrafted sets, props and accessories.

I think this video is a perfect example of showing a designers vision in moving images. Even though its not the super super perfect video it has some really nice shots and a great feel and atmosphere about it that communicates.

Edward Burtynsky

"Edward Burtynsky’s large-scale color photographs document the many facets of nature as it is transformed through human industry. Exquisitely detailed and exactingly rendered, his images strike an intricate balance between a somber reportage and a powerfully seductive aesthetic. His various series, including shipbreaking yards, rock quarries and industrial refineries, reflect the dilemma between society’s desire for prosperity and the suffering it exacts upon the environment."

There is also a french film, but maybe there are some english subs!

Enjoy.

Strange things happen in Africa

Pieter Hugo has a special interest in Africa. This is one of his most recent projects. Inspiring but also a bit weird; a Nigerian tribe whose people employed animals as both entertainment and protection! Check also his website..

after filming stress...some fun!

hi guys, maybe some of you need some variety again after weeks of filming, so i thought this is a nice photo project. easy and fun and with some awesome results!

pinhole photography: A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture — effectively a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through this single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box. You can easily construct this camera by yourself using things lying around like match boxes or any kind of boxes, paper, duct tape etc. The small amount of light passing through this pin sized hole produces image on a photographic film or a CCD sensor.

Mise en scene

A film you probably all know: Blow with Johhny Depp.  I found a great example of mise en scene in it. It’s from minute 2.27 till 3.27
The first part you see the beginning of the drugs selling live of George. It’s  free, fast en involves a lot of fun. The music, setting, the way the camara follows the movements,  the way it’s edited and the way the scenes follow each other amplify this feeling.
The second part you see George and his girlfriend. They tell eachother their happy. The romantic setting on the beach and the way the camara first shows an overview and then zooms in on the couple makes it intimate and believable.

The hours

The movie ‘the hours’ is very inspiring for me when it comes to art direction. The colours, the clothes, the set, everything works to understand and feel the complicated lifes of these woman. They are from three different generations and all represent a different time and lifestyle in history. Each time is represented perfectly and there is much attantion for detail. The film has 4 art directors.

Editing: Short movie

Name: "The Brick Thief": A LEGO short movie

This is an inspiring short movie, it's about a man who's building things with Lego. Here you'll notice that the movie is actually a stop motion. The stop motion is very interesting for editing. Also the music plays a big part to keep the viewer interesting.
